Great Opportunities to Help Skyview Elementary!

Hey, Neighbors! Wanted to make sure you all knew about the opportunities we have to help support our neighborhood school. Come meet your neighbors, have fun and enjoy giving back to Skyview.

Skyview Campus Opportunities

Sunday, 3/25/12, 9:30 – Noon: Two volunteer groups, organized by Lake Highlands UMC, will be gathering - one to paint games on the concrete area of the playground (Hopscotch, 4 Square, etc.), and the other to work on landscaping the front entrance and preparing Skyview’s new Garden Enrichment area. Contact Scott Balch (sbalch@texasbomanite.com) or Terry King (terryking21106@att.net), or just show up!

On-going Campus Opportunities: There are opportunities to volunteer weekly or monthly to… help in the Library, tutor PreK – 2nd graders, help in the office (Mon/Tues 9-11 a.m.), be a guest reader, help in the Cafeteria, be a Fun Friday Helper (every 6 weeks), stuff backpacks for the Food 4 Kids program (Fridays 1 p.m.), help with 5th/6th grade extra-curriculars (Fridays 3-4 p.m.), be a Crossing Guard (7-9 a.m. or 3-4 p.m.), or be a Target Shopper for school uniforms (any time).  If any of these pique your interest, contact Ms. Delia Ovalle in the school office at Delia.Ovalle@risd.org or (469) 593-2400.

Community Service Opportunities that Impact Skyview Students

Every Tuesday/Thursday Afternoon: Volunteers gather at The New Room Community Center (an ‘off-campus’ facility of LHUMC located next to CiCi’s Pizza at Whitehurst/Skillman) for Kids’ Klub – after-school tutoring and games for school-aged kids, including Skyview students. Contact Jill Goad (jgoad@lhumc.com) for more information.

Third Wednesday Every Month: Volunteers are needed at The New Room Community Center to help sort/package donated food (1 - 3 p.m.) and to distribute food (5:30 – 7:30 p.m.) to help feed Lake Highlands families in need, including Skyview families.

And Remember to Get involved with Skyview Hatchlings! This playdate/program started by  FM neighbor Elizabeth Wiley is for families with pre-elementary aged kiddos who want to attend Skyview. To get on Elizabeth’s contact list and find out about playdates, contact her at estirling@hotmail.com.
